Antigua has some museums with pieces from more than five centuries. This are some of them:

  • Museo de Santiago

Museo de Santiago or Saint James Museum is located in the Main Plaza. In the opposite side of Palacio de los Capitanes Generales. It is open every day and has weapons, sculptures and furniture from colonial times.

  • Museo Colonial en la Universidad de San Carlos de Borromeo

Located at former Universidad de San Carlos de Borromeo Building. It has a good sample of fine colonial art.

This includes painting, religious icons, and more.

  • Museo del Libro Antiguo

The Museum of the Antique Book  is a very small museum that contains books from colonial times. It also haves more recent documents important to the city, and a replica of the first printing machine that came to Guatemala.  Is is located in the Main Plaza at the side of Museo de Santiago.
