Guatemala is a very centralized country. Most government, diplomatic and business issues most be solved in Guatemala City. Guatemala's most important airport "La Aurora" is located in Guatemala City. This means that even if you do not want to, you will probably will be in the city at least two days, the day you come and the day you leave, if you come by plane.

Guatemala is a cosmopolitan city with modern buildings and many services. Zona Viva is the most famous area, where you can find restaurants, hotels, and many companies have their operations there. 4 Grados Norte is a new area, that started development in 2002, and promises to be a very nice place to go also.

El Mercado Central (central market) is a must in Guatemala City, you will probably find better deals there than the ones you can find in Antigua or Chichicastenango, but it is not the safest place in our country, so if you go there, be careful, not paranoiac,  and you will enjoy it

If you are coming just to work to the city, El Mercado de Artesanías (Handcrafts Market) is located very close to Zona Viva and Aeropuerto La Aurora, and has a good restaurant and some local handcraft, if you are short on time is a good solution, and you can have a business lunch there.

There are some pre-Columbian ruins like Kaminal Juyú. There is a Relief Map of Guatemala located  in the northern part of the city. Plaza Mayor or Central Park is a place where you can see The Cathedral and Palacio de la Cultura or National Palace.  There are some museums where you can learn about the country, the people, the history and traditions.
