Guatemalan singer and songwriter released his latest video, and it shows many of the great places in Guatemala, including Antigua Guatemala, Tikal, San Felipe Castle, Semuc Champey, Lake Atitlán and some other nice places. In the video he sings with Gaby Moreno, another important Guatemalan singer.

Ricardo Arjona is the most famous singer and songwriter in Guatemala. He has received many of the most important awards for latin musicians, including the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards and many others.

Each year, a group of people get together to travel from Guatemala City to Esquipulas in motorcycle. This is year 51 of the event and it is said that more than 40,000 people participated in this event last year. It was declared as an intangible heritage of the country last year in its 50th birthday.

I had not visited the Official Tourism site of Guatemala, and I did a couple of weeks ago, truth is, I impressed me, there is a lot of information, presented in a professional way, of course, the site is from the government agency of tourism (INGUAT – Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo), but it can give you a good idea of many of the places that you can visit, it also has some downloadable maps and guides of different places. The site is available in English and Spanish.

Tomorrow we have a new president, is it the beginning of the “New Era”?

I am not usually very excited about this kind of news, but I believe tomorrow is a very important day for Guatemala. Alvaro Colom Caballeros is leaving the presidency, as the worst president of the democratic era of Guatemala, maybe even the worst ever. The new comer is a former general of the armed forces, and definitively not the one I rooted for, but at this moment it seems to be doing things the right way (taking into account he is not in office yet).

Fmr. General Otto Pérez Molina will face many challenges, receiving the country with many problems, but we hope he can change some thing around, as for now, it has many people believing things can get a little better, including myself. Don’t get me wrong, I believe Guatemala is a country full of opportunities, with the best resources in the region, I also believe is a one of the best places to travel everywhere, but sometimes a government can make many things a little harder, now is time to close the door to what is left behind, and start a New Era, could it be related with the 2012 stories, hey maybe this all of what the Maya predicted, after all the Mayan region was centered in Guatemala, and most cities were here.

Paseo Cayalá

Some days after posting some pictures of Paseo Cayalá by night (very late), Here are some pictures I took this afternoon. They try to show as much as possible, but I believe pictures do not make justice to the place. One nice thing is that now there many stores open, and there is work in progress on many places, so we hope to see it full soon. If you have not been here, I hope this pictures make you want to come.

Guatemala on the web, now with more than 1,000 pictures of Guatemala

We have been given our site a complete new redesign, I hope you like more than the old versions, some content was moved, and, I guess some has been lost. We are trying to get everything that has been on our web throughout its history of something around 12 or 13 years, and I believe we are getting there.

Right now, the site has almost 1,400 pictures, and we hope to put up some more in the near future. Please come and visit us often, as we try to add some new content every week. I you would like to contribute some of your work, we will love it, and give you credit for it.

First Half Marathon of the Year – Max Tott 2012

This is one of the most traditional runs in Guatemala, and one the most challenging, almost all the way is uphill or downhill. Year 2012, end of the world or the beginning of a new era?

Let me start with I hope you have a great year 2012. I hope you had a very good Christmas or very good holidays.

So what is this about the end of the world in 2012, and it is true that the Mayan people predicted that this will be the end of the world. I guess I am a little skeptic about this issue, the Mayan Civilization missed the end of their great culture by more than 700 years, because of what I have learned the great Mayan Civilization ended around year 1,300 BC[1], when the Spanish came to America the world of the Maya had already ended. Besides, I believe they do not the beginning of the world correct either, so why would the end be correct.

But besides that, year 2012 is a great year to come to Guatemala, you can come here and visit the places like Tikal, El Mirador or many other Mayan places where the story began, and as part of the visit you can come here and enjoy some of the adventures of your bucket list that you may be missing, like help poeple with needs, river rafting, scuba diving, go to an active volcano, mountain climbing, learn spanish or another of the languages spoken in Guatemala, live in a mountain, go insade cavern, you name it!

I found this page http://mayanadventuretravel.com/ looking in the Internet and it looks like a great way to get to know Guatemala, like little people do, including myself. Have yet to find references of the quality of the stay with them, but it looks good.

So Guatemala may be the best place to start a New Era in your life.

Paseo Cayalá by Night

Paseo Cayalá in Zona 16, Guatemala City is a new shopping center, offices and apartment buidling concept. It is a great place but you cannot find many picutres of it. Not having a camera on hand every time I visit, I was unable to post many picture either. Tonight a visited for a while and took some pictures, not by best I believe, because it was dark, I had no tripod, but here they are. It is a very nice place and I really hope they do great. Enjoy the pictures, and I will go again better prepared so you can see it better.
